History of Insurance
Insurance started being used about the same time as human civilization. It first appeared in China as early as 5000 BC and Babylonia at about 4500 BC to reduce the risk for traders. Chinese traders traveling the seas would distribute there goods across multiple ships to reduce the loss if one of the vessels were to wreck or capsize. In ancient Babylonia if a merchant received a loan to pay for his shipment, he would pay the lender an additional fee in exchange for the lender's guarantee to cancel the loan if the shipment were stolen
